Task 2: ANALYSE A BROADCAST PRESENTER

Although Jeremy Clarkson is infamous for relying on comedy (often controversial) to present shows like Top Gear, he is actually very good at what he does. He’s confident in front of a camera, and uses the common visual techniques to emphasize certain words and phrases – like unfolding his hands, or tilting his head upwards.

Verbal Techniques and speech, it’s all very clean. He doesn’t have an accent as such, he just uses simple, easy to understand English/vocabulary. The perfect middle ground pretty much. More towards the formal side of language, but not so much that it could be described as ‘Queen’s English,’ or posh.

Clarkson’s presenting is ideal for his target audience, (Primarily people who watch Top Gear) because he is funny. Although he is a very good presenter, he is very generic with how he carries himself in front of a camera, and is comparable to almost anyone. This is because the target audience for his shows don’t care about flashy presenting. His presenting is basic, and straight to the point.

Task 1: RESEARCH DIFFERENT PRESENTATION ROLES

The purpose of a Newsreader is to formerly present the news. This means writing your own scripts, reading from an auto cue, and speaking loud and clear. They are also required to do this without letting their personal opinion come through - by keeping a straight face. The audience will expect them to be presentable & smartly dressed. They need to appear trustworthy. You need to believe them. Unlike other types of presenters, newsreaders take on a more serious role. They have the largest audience, and are under the most pressure to not mess up on live television.

Chat-show Host is essentially an interviewer. They need to be interested in people, and have a large variety of tastes and interests so that they are well prepared when interviewing their guests. They need to keep informed about popular culture and the world around them so they know what questions to ask.
It is not uncommon for a chat-show host to have their own show named after them. (eg, The Graham Norton Show, The Jonathan Ross Show.) They need to have a character that the audience won't get sick of. They also need to be quick-witted so that they can ask questions on the spot, and make jokes when relevant.

In Comparison to other presenters, a chat-show host is probably the most personable, very social. Due to the nature of their shows, they are usually the funniest, socially able type of presenter.

Presenting in front a camera - Script

Hello, I'm Jack. Welcome to SDC News.

BBC One's hit series Sherlock hits universal acclaim yet again.

It seems the season 3 finale, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman was received very well. Lead writers Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss have done it again.

The episode, took us to both some dark and enlightening places. The 90-minute monster concludes with fans scratching their heads as to where the show may go next.

Season 4 has been confirmed by Moffat, and is rumoured to hit out screen by as soon at 2015.

I've been Jack Mills, and this is SDC news.

Task 5

Locations for filming with take place on the street outside the venue, the stage/venue itself, and a back-room. We would need to shoot outside to get long shots of the venue, which we will use during the introduction the film. Most filming will take place in the actual venue itself, to film the acts on stage. We'd also need to go somewhere quiet where we could interview the owner of the venue, but that's their choice really, so it's subject to change.

Regarding health and safety, there are few issues. Whilst filming outside, we'd have to watch out for pedestrians cars, ect. When filming inside, wires, leads, and cables need to be moved out of the way, to avoid anyone tripping. There is also quite a high risk of being accidentally hit by people noshing/dancing.
